Get Hooked on Fishing Merseyside Success Story - John Goulding

Meeting this shy young man back in 2007 as he boarded the minibus to go on a fishing trip, none of us knew what journey he would take over the next few years. A quiet lad, so quiet in fact that it was difficult to have a conversation with him as he would not make eye contact and spoke very quietly.
He enjoyed the fishing trip and caught well after some basic tuition, which unlike many others in the group, he listened and put the instruction into practice.

Having enjoyed the day he was referred to a group we were working with in his school, who were doing the GHOF Module 1. Basic Introduction to Angling. John being a quiet lad was to gather momentum quickly and started to become known as a very level headed member of the group. His interest not only in fishing but in making a difference with the local young people was very apparent and he was soon volunteering to help in anyway he could. He would come along to taster days, passing on his angling skills to other young people.
John was rewarded for his efforts in 2007 by being chosen to take part in his first trip to France where he was to experience not only big French carp fishing but new culture, history and environment. The France trip saw him come of age and he demonstrated how far he had come by his leadership skills amongst his peer group.

Having passed module 2 and 3, this significantly improved his motivation both at school and as a volunteer in the GHOF scheme. He has been achieving good results, giving him even more confidence. When he was 17 we offered him the opportunity to study for his Level 1 Certificate in Coaching Angling which he seized and passed with flying colours. Immediately he expressed an interest in doing his Level 2 Certificate.
