Following the launch of their online donation campaign the Get Hooked on Fishing Charitable Trust was delighted to see Chris Shakesby become their first online fundraiser.

Chris, a manager with IBM Software Services has been a keen angler for years and wanted to put something back into the sport during his 50th year celebrations. He set himself a target to run 10k at the Great Manchester Run......... dressed as a fish!

Although he had to compromise a little on the 'costume' for practical purposes, it had the desired effect in generating interest for fishing and sponsorship for his chosen charity Get Hooked.

Asked about his interest in fishing Chris said:

"My Granddad taught me how to fish when I was 13 years old. I recall many happy experiences learning how to fish in ponds, rivers and in the North Sea and there are great stories I'm still telling to this day. Fast forward 37 years and I'm still fishing and I'm still learning. I've learned how to fish for pike, for barbel and how to present a fly. I've also learned that each fishing trip should be an adventure, whether it's enjoying the sunset reflected on the water, sheltering in the farmer's barn during a thunderstorm or having a laugh over a pre-fishing breakfast or a post-fishing pint. Any one who tells you that fishing is boring isn't really trying!"
