The Midshires project was established by Dave Smith in 2003 with Sakina (Daves daughter) filling the role of senior peer coach. In May 2007 Sakina and Mandy passed their level 2 coaching certificates (fishcoach.org), and in August 2007 they jointly took control of the scheme. Both ladies have fished all over the country and spent hundreds of hours coaching and passing on their angling knowledge.
It also has Chelsea Stone (age 12) as its Peer Coach in general a testimony to “Girl Power” in angling.
The project operates from Lakemore Fishery, a venue with 5 lakes all containing Wells catfish, there is also a good head of large carp, roach, rudd and bream as well as ornamental fish, which always prove popular with young anglers.
Of the 5 lakes on site 2 are dedicated to specimen fishing and 3 to general angling, the “willow pool” in particular is ideal for coaching young anglers. There is a coffee shop on site and good toilet facilities, with disabled access.
